Strength and Endurance Training in Soccer

Among the different sports played by many people across the globe, soccer is the most demanding. Because of this, soccer training and conditioning is important. Unlike the other games, soccer is played on a large field and it lasts for a long duration of time during which players won’t be able rest for a prolonged period. In every game, soccer players often cover eight to 12 kilometers. To further break this down, players will be involved in walking 24 percent of the time, 36 percent jogging, 11 percent sprinting, 20 percent coursing, seven percent moving backwards and two percent moving while playing with the soccer ball.

Using the right type of endurance training in soccer is important since the player’s aerobic capacity will depend on how far he can cover the field during a typical game. Moreover, improved endurance training instructed by the soccer team management can raise the number of sprints players will be able to complete in a game. With this, enhancing the endurance of young soccer players by 11 percent for eight weeks will have a 20 percent increase in the total distance covered during a competitive play between soccer teams, including 23 percent increase in ball movements and a hundred percent increase in the number of sprints executed by every soccer player. On the other hand, strength training for soccer teams can help correct muscle imbalances. Most of the soccer players are prone to develop overly strong quadriceps and hamstrings. A well-formed strength plan for soccer can avert this issue and prevent injuries.

Soccer training often takes place in the off-seasons. The two main objectives of having off-season soccer training for different soccer teams are physical recovery and mental restoration from an exhausting season. In relation to these goals, holding training sessions will minimize any losses in strength and conditioning that is loss over the season.

Basically, strength is an important element that must be present in every soccer game. It comprises the basis for power and speed. Thus, strength is being stressed out in every soccer team management training session. Soccer players often need strength in holding off other soccer teams. For example, professional players of soccer don’t have as much strength as American football players and rugby players because it might hinder their agility and speed. However, relative strength is more important than absolute strength. It is the player’s maximum strength adjusted based on his body weight. Relative strength is what the soccer team management wants more than maximum strength.
